Extractions

When is an extraction necessary

We always want an extraction to be the last resort but sometimes it is the only possible treatment. For most tooth fractures a crown is recommended to strengthen the tooth and prevent further breakage. Sometimes a fractured tooth needs a root canal which then also would need a crown. For a crown to help stabilize the tooth, enough tooth structure needs to be present.. When a tooth has broken or has significantly large carious lesions then the best long term solution is an extraction.

What happens after having an extraction

Now that the tooth is missing what happens next? An extracted tooth doesn't always need replaced but replacing the tooth with a bridge, implant, or partial will help maintain space, increase chewing capability, and restore your smile.
